Emil Andersson's page |
|
| This page tells a bit about what happened to Emil after he had left for America and also about his descendants there. | |
Emil left Sweden in 1899 with the ship Campania
|
|
| He arrived in New York Nov 25th 1899. He settled down, first in Calumet, Houghton, Michigan, where he lived with his wife Anna Ohrström (it says Ohrstrom in | |
| but Öhrström is the Swedish original) , they got married in 1906. | |
| They had the children Mabel b. 1906, Elsie b.1908, Ruby b. 1918. The first 3 children were born in Michigan, Ruby was born in Duluth, St Louis, Minnesota | |
| and that is where they stayed. The son Harold was born in 1925. | |
| In the census of 1910, Carl is noted as "copper miner". In 1920 he is noted as "janitor at a public school". At this point in time, Anna's father Gustaf Ohrstrom and | |
| her brother Gustaf S Ohrstrom lived with them. Gustaf Ohistrom sr had left Sweden but his children were born in the USA. | |
| Emil's sister Karolina/Lina also went to the USA in 1903 and went to Emil in Michigan. She was called Lena (which is no wonder, since the Swedish pronunciation | |
| of the Lina would sound as Lena in English). Lena died in 1944. | |
| Anna died in 1949 and Emil later married Helen Sundberg. | |
| Emil was very religious and active in his Lutheran church. He was secretary for the men's society in church. | |
